As a Registered Nurse PICC at Mercy, you will provide highly specialized vascular access nursing care for patients requiring peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) and other advanced IV therapies within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. Working in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment, you will be responsible for the safe assessment, placement, care, and removal of PICC lines and related vascular access devices for diverse patient populations across Mercy’s Midwest facilities. Leveraging your clinical expertise in ultrasound-guided insertion and infusion therapy, you will perform comprehensive patient assessments, verify indications for PICC placement, obtain informed consent, and ensure the use of strict aseptic and sterile technique to minimize infection risk. You will collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and bedside nurses to determine appropriate device selection, troubleshoot line issues, and optimize infusion plans that support effective treatment and rapid recovery. Your role will include ongoing monitoring of patients for complications such as thrombosis, infection, and catheter malfunction, as well as timely intervention and escalation according to Mercy protocols. You will educate patients and families on PICC line care, activity limitations, and signs of potential complications, reinforcing Mercy’s commitment to compassionate, personalized care. Documentation of assessments, procedures, and outcomes will be completed accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record, ensuring continuity of care and regulatory compliance.
