Princeton Day School is seeking a professional Part-time Library Assistant beginning in the 2026-27 school year to support the operations and programs of its three (3) school libraries. Reporting to the Head of Libraries and Division Library Specialists, the Library Assistant helps maintain an organized, welcoming, and service-oriented environment while providing essential technical and operational support. The Part-time Library Assistant plays a key role in supporting students and faculty in each divisional library.

This is a part-time 10-month non-exempt (hourly) position working Monday through Friday from 7:45am to 12:45pm; 25 hours weekly.

For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:

  • Organize, catalog, shelve and maintain library collections and spaces
  • Manage daily library systems, including circulation, holds, renewals, and overdue items
  • Substitute for library classes and supervise students across grade levels as needed in all divisions
  • Support reading programs, including designing and maintaining displays to promote literacy
  • Support students and faculty in using library systems and educational digital resources, including troubleshooting
  • Provide high-quality reader's advisory services to students and faculty by maintaining a current working knowledge of the library collections and publishing trends
  • Performing physical daily tasks such as shelving at varying heights, lifting, packing, and shifting library materials
  • Contribute to a variety of library projects and initiatives that support programs and enhance services, such as reorganizing, shelf reading and inventory
  • Interact positively with students and faculty, with the possibility of acting as an advisor in some divisions
  • Assist with the supervision and training of library volunteers

Qualifications and Personal Attributes:

  • Enthusiastic about working with children and adolescents, fostering positive and supportive relationships
  • Skilled with library management systems, digital resources, and educational technologies, including troubleshooting
  • Flexible, able to substitute for library classes, provide supervision, and assist with age-appropriate lessons across divisions
  • Comfortable with performing physical daily tasks such as shelving, lifting, packing, and shifting library materials
  • Experience in school or library settings preferred; bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience highly desirable
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, able to work effectively under the guidance of librarians and contribute to a positive learning environment

Compensation : $25.00 an hour (this role is not eligible for benefits)
