Role Overview
This role supports the Strength & Conditioning program for field and office employees, with a primary focus on injury prevention, functional movement, mobility, and physical readiness. This is not an injury treatment or physical therapy role. Instead, the focus is on helping workers stay healthy, strong, and safe in physically demanding environments.
The Industrial Athletic Trainer will work out of the Skills Training Center in Mission Valley, supporting employees from across the gas side of the business and occasionally traveling to offsite locations.
Key Responsibilities (Day‑to‑Day)
Partner with another full‑time Strength & Conditioning Coach to support field and office employees
Lead strength and conditioning programs tailored to utility and industrial workers (linemen, welders, field crews)
Conduct functional movement screenings, mobility assessments, and physical readiness evaluations
Run group training sessions and classes (typically 3–4 days per week)
Design and implement mobility, strength, conditioning, recovery, and injury‑prevention programs
Educate employees on proper movement, ergonomics, rest, recovery, and basic nutrition
Support safety initiatives through movement education (no injury response or treatment)
Occasionally travel to offsite locations to support additional teams
Build strong relationships with employees and earn trust in a blue‑collar, field‑based environment
What a Typical Day Looks Like
Based out of the Skills Training Center in Mission Valley
Employees rotate through scheduled training blocks
Each group typically spends ~1 hour in training
Classes, screenings, and conditioning sessions run throughout the day
Some offsite support as needed
Required Qualifications (Must‑Haves)
Level III experience with 3+ years in strength & conditioning, athletic training, or related field
Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (or closely related field)
One or more of the following certifications:
TSAC (Tactical Strength & Conditioning – transferable to industrial work)
CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist – NSCA)
CPT (Certified Personal Trainer)
Experience training large groups
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to motivate diverse populations
Soft Skills / Personality Fit
Excellent people skills; able to connect with field‑based workers
Comfortable working with physically demanding roles (linemen, welders, utility crews)
Strong judgment in knowing how hard to push vs. when to pull back
Able to earn trust and build long‑term relationships
Confident, approachable, and credible in front of large groups
pay 32-38/hr
