Job Description

A Department of Corrections (DOC) is a government agency responsible for managing prisons and community supervision (probation/parole) for individuals convicted of crimes. Key functions include maintaining safe, secure facilities, providing rehabilitation programs, and aiding in offender reentry. They focus on punishing, deterring, and rehabilitating offenders to improve public safety.

Responsibilities:

• Security and Safety: Conduct regular inmate counts to ensure everyone is present, search cells, inmates, and visitors for contraband (drugs, weapons), and inspect facilities for security breaches, such as broken windows or tampered locks
• Inmate Supervision: Monitor behavior in housing units, dining areas, and recreational areas to prevent fights, riots, or escapes
• Enforcement and Discipline: Enforce facility rules and regulations, manage inmate conduct, and report violations
• Documentation: Prepare daily logs and incident reports regarding inmate behavior and significant activities
• Transportation and Escort: Escort inmates to courtrooms, medical facilities, or within the prison facility
• Emergency Response: Intervene in fights, perform medical first aid, and carry out emergency procedures

Requirements:

• 18 years of age
• Valid driver's license
• High School Diploma or GED certificate
• U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
• Speak, read, and write English
